Innovative Safe Together aftercare program
Safe Together is a recovery community run by and for residents, with support from external professionals from Rebuild Yourself.
The program is designed for former clients who, after completing Rebuild Yourself, seek further stabilization before fully returning to independent life in society.

Living arrangement
Residents live independently in their own apartment.
A strict house policy applies:

  • no drugs or alcohol
  • no online gambling or other addiction-related activities

Daily structure
Residents cook, eat, and clean together according to a rotating schedule (individual cooking remains possible).
There are daily group moments at the beginning and/or end of the day.
Weekly group reflection takes place on Saturdays, guided by an external, non-resident professional.ewonende deskundige.

Participation and responsibility
Residents are expected to work, study, and/or engage in volunteer activities.
Active participation in the group process and recovery environment is expected.

Goal and transition
The aim is for residents to move on, after a period of three months up to a maximum of one year, to fully independent living within society.

Peer support and lived experience
The resident group functions as a self-help community in which lived experience plays a central role. Residents support each other in recovery, resilience, and daily life, without continuous intervention from professionals. This closely aligns with the core principles of the 12-step model: recovery through shared experience, responsibility, and mutual support.

International expansion
Rebuild Yourself intends to offer the Safe Together aftercare program in both the Netherlands and Cambodia, in collaboration with local governments, social organizations, and the business sector. The goal is to create sustainable recovery pathways on an international level.

Municipal support
Municipalities can play an important facilitating role through:

  • community offices and neighborhood teams (advice, networking, locations)
  • WMO provisions (support for independent living)
  • subsidies for resident initiatives focused on social cohesion and recovery-oriented communities
